Privacy Policy

Partner(s) (“we”, “us”) runs thepartners.app, including the website, the blog and the card game app at /play/. This policy explains what information is involved when you use them. The short version: we built Partner(s) so that we never receive your answers or your conversations.

The short version

  • No accounts. You don’t need a name, email address or phone number to use the app.
  • No server storage of your answers. Your cards, answers, nickname, check-in words and optional PIN are stored only in your browser’s local storage (localStorage) on your own device.
  • Private share links. When you send an answer, it travels inside the link itself, after the “#”. Browsers don’t send that part of a link to any server, including ours.
  • No analytics or tracking on any part of the site today.
  • Later, maybe: we may add affiliate links and advertising to the homepage and blog (never inside the app). If we do, we’ll update this policy first, and third-party ad networks may set cookies on those pages.

What the app stores, and where

When you use the app at /play/, it saves:

  • the starter pack and role you choose;
  • the nickname you enter, if any;
  • your answers and replies, and the messages you receive;
  • your check-in words and app settings;
  • your optional 4-digit PIN, stored as a one-way hash.

All of this is kept in localStorage on your device. It is not sent to us, and we can’t see it, recover it or delete it for you. You can erase it at any time with Clear everything in the app, or by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.

The PIN keeps casual eyes out of the app on your device. It is not encryption: someone with full access to your unlocked device and browser could still read local storage.

When you tap Send, the app creates a link to thepartners.app/play/ with your message compressed and encoded after the “#” (the URL fragment). By design, browsers don’t include the fragment when they request a page, so the content of your message doesn’t reach our server or our host’s logs.

The link itself does contain your message, though. Anyone who has the link can open it and read it, and the apps you use to send it (a messaging app or email, for example) may store the message under their own policies. Please share links only with your partner, through a channel you trust.

When your partner opens a link, the app saves the message on their device, together with your role and nickname so your two phones are “paired.” Nothing is stored centrally.

Hosting and server logs

The site is delivered as static files by a hosting provider (currently Netlify). Like any web host, it may process technical information such as IP addresses, browser type and the pages requested, in order to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse. This never includes the fragment of a share link. The host’s own privacy policy explains its practices.

Cookies and analytics

Today we use no cookies, no analytics, no advertising trackers and no fingerprinting on any part of the site. The app uses your browser’s local storage only so that it can work, as described above.

We may add affiliate links (“Recommended for couples”) and advertising to the homepage and blog. We won’t place them inside the app at /play/.

  • If you click an affiliate link, you leave our site, and the partner’s site may set cookies to record that you came from us. Their privacy policy applies from that point.
  • If we enable a third-party ad network, it may set cookies or use similar technologies on the pages where ads appear, and may process information such as your IP address and device details to show and measure ads. Before that happens we’ll update this policy and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent first.

Our Affiliate Disclosure explains how we label these links.

Adults only

Partner(s) is intended only for adults aged 18 or over. Please read our 18+ notice. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Your choices and rights

Because we don’t hold an account or your answers, most data rights (access, correction, deletion) are already in your hands: your information lives on your device, and you can delete it whenever you like. If you have questions about information our host or future partners may process, or you’d like to exercise rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA, contact us and we’ll help where we can.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Partner(s) handles information, we’ll update this page and the date above. Significant changes, such as enabling advertising, will be highlighted on the site.
